Open Source Applications

The founders of [Open Mutual] have been involved with implementing point solutions in infrastructure using Open Source since 1997.

Since that time the Free and Open Source community has grown in leaps and bounds and we believe it is possible to reliably use Open Source software within small businesses irrespecitve of the Desktop Platform.

Few businesses will want to migrate to GNU/Linux as the desktop Operating System but this doesn't mean that you miss out on migrating applications.

Open Mutual specialises in identifying suitable Open Source applications which are cross-platform (can run on either Windows or GNU/Linux and in some cases MAC OSX) and are multi-language (focusing on major European languages) and installing these for you.

Office Desktop Applications

Open Office - has proven itself to be a reliable and rich-featured Office Suite which offers more features than typically you would expect to use in a Small Business.

Scribus - offers you a Desktop Publishing (DTP) environment.

Inkscape - allows you to create vector drawings which can be imported back into Open Office or Scribus.

Firefox - this is a standards based Internet browser. The beauty of this application is its ability to easily use extensions which enhance the core browser functionality. The most recent version is version 3.

Thunderbird - this email program complements Firefox. It also has extensions to enhance its functionality.

GIMP - a fully-featured image editing program that we use a lot to resample, resize or clean up digital images for publication onto Web sites.
